Now Recruiting Healthcare Interpreters

With nearly two decades of delivering over-the-phone interpretation, Language Services Associates continues to experience rapid growth. In our tradition of providing the highest quality of service to many healthcare systems and large hospitals, we are currently seeking skilled interpreters with strong experience in the healthcare field.

LSA strives to create a highly favorable environment for quality interpretation by maintaining constant contact with our interpreters. Through strong support and encouragement, LSA interpreters are motivated to provide excellent service. LSA interpreters are kept informed of our standards and procedures so that they know what is expected of them and can prepare adequately.

Interpreter Relations

Retention of qualified interpreters is a critical issue. High turnover may be a problem in language service companies that do not treat interpreters well or are poorly organized. LSA understands the need for a stable pool of experienced interpreters, and we maintain a comprehensive interpreter relations program to ensure continuity. This program includes:

  • Timely pay
  • Attractive pay rates
  • Support for purchasing reference materials
  • Support for professional development, including LSA-sponsored seminars
  • Opportunities to provide LSA feedback and perspective

Incentive Program

LSA maintains an Incentive Program to reward interpreters for compliance with continuing education and administrative requirements. These incentives may include:

  • Positive reinforcement in the form of certificates and awards
  • Opportunity for advancement to greater privileges and priority in assignments
  • Discounted or complimentary reference materials
  • Other bonuses

Healthcare Interpretation Program

Selected interpreters that show promise and are committed to advancing in the profession are offered the opportunity to acquire further specialized training in the medical interpretation field. The courses are customized according to the client’s needs, and aim at instilling effective interpretation techniques for the trainees. The course is administered in a multi-modal approach and content includes medical terminology, interpreter ethics, standards of practice and medical interpretation protocols. Cultural aspects of interpretation are interwoven throughout the training. We rely on a variety of interactive learning techniques such as role-playing exercises, issues in ethics discussions, webinars and class discussions.

Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning

We make continuing education accessible and attractive by offering it in a variety of forms: on-site workshops and seminars, self-study modules, background reading, and online courses. We also give interpreters the flexibility of taking courses offered by colleges and universities near where they live, or attending conferences and training sessions presented by other organizations. Our incentive program provides further rewards for fulfilling the continuing education requirement.

Mentoring

Our QA Team knows how important it is to draw on the wealth of knowledge accumulated by veteran interpreters to help newcomers to the profession learn the ropes. Interpreters with years of experience are designated as mentors and assigned a number of mentees who can turn to them for guidance on matters of language, procedure or protocol. They may communicate with their mentees by telephone or email, or in mentoring forums here on the LSA website. Mentors may also be asked to listen to recordings to provide feedback, and will be trained as tape evaluators so that they can continually assess the skills of new and existing interpreters in their working languages.
